“Ugly Feminists” is a creative work of Alejandra Suckel, Melina Rapiman, Leah Gallant and Beatriz Sotomayor. These women have much experience doing feminist graphics and as they themselves proclaim, their work is a provocation to laugh about stereotypes. Their project is to make a feminist graphic that puts into question the spaces traditionally considered to be “nice” or “pretty.”
They have started by making postcards, but have further projects in mind. They believe that we have to claim the “nice” stereotypes, and put them into debate with pencils, paintbrushes, photoshop, and anything else on hand. Their motivation is to please the eyes of a hetero/lesbian/bi/trans woman and of all women who resist labels.
