Crises and Emergencies

A framework that enables collective action in response to crises and emergencies in Chile. With this goal in mind, six organizations from different regions of the country, in coordination with Fondo Alquimia, jointly developed a protocol to help provide practical responses to various situations affecting communities.

The Feminist Action Protocol for Crises and Emergencies included the participation of Asamblea de Organizaciones Migrantes y Promigrantes de Tarapacá (AMPRO), Solidaridad en Resistencia, Corporación Rompiendo Barreras, Olla Común Fuerza Marika, Grupo de Mujeres La Pincoya and Red por la Superación del Modelo Forestal.

The proposed plan of action brings together time, knowledge, wisdom, and experience. “It is an invitation to organize, to get to know the people who live in your neighborhood, your town, your city. An invitation to build community in a world that has become too accustomed to individualism. It is an invitation to confront crises and build the life we want,” states the group that drafted the Protocol.

Available for free download, the document addresses the importance of a feminist and community-based response, viewing crises and emergencies as a process that requires foresight for assessment and training; response mechanisms for when an incident occurs; and a recovery plan for reconstruction, care, and support for those who took action during the emergency.

The protocol concludes with an important chapter on resource mobilization. “It is not just about raising money, but about politicizing the use, management, and distribution of resources, as well as highlighting the value of community work and building support networks that can be sustainable over time, based on transparency, reciprocity, sustainability, and solidarity,” the document emphasizes.
